The Wu-Tang Clan is composed of ten rappers with successful solo careers. The members comprise RZA, GZA, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Raekwon, Masta Killa, and Cappadonna. Together, these artists have released 91 solo and group albums, not including Wu-Tang Clan’s nine highly-acclaimed studio albums. The hip-hop group released their groundbreaking debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) in 1993. The record was the archetypal East Coast rap album, spawning hit singles, “C.R.E.A.M.,” “Protect Ya Neck,” and “Method Man.” Despite its underground appeal, the album entered the mainstream charts, peaking at number 48 on the Billboard 200 and number 8 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. The album holds a significant influence on New York’s hip-hop scene, with some critics revering it for paving the way for other rappers, such as Jay-Z, Nas, Notorious B.I.G., and Mobb Deep. In 2020, Rolling Stone published a list of “500 Greatest Albums of All Time,” where Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) was ranked number 27.
With a phenomenal debut, it was only fitting that Wu-Tang Clan released another groundbreaking record – that’s what they accomplished with their sophomore album, Wu-Tang Forever. The 1997 album topped the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts and entered the charts in 14 other countries, including the U.K. and Australia. The highly-acclaimed record was preceded by “Triumph,” It’s Yourz,” and “Reunited.”
In 2014, Wu-Tang Clan released their latest album for public consumption, A Better Tomorrow. This was the last album that fans were able to enjoy because its follow up record, Once Upon A Time in Shaolin (2015) was auctioned to the highest bidder, making it the most expensive work of music ever sold.
